Jahmyr Gibbs
Gibbs' bigger workload makes him a weekly cornerstone despite dipping efficiency
Jahmyr Gibbs is Detroit's RB1, and through five games of 2026 he is being used like one in every sense. He is averaging 21 carries per game, and he has drawn 29 red-zone carries, nearly six per game. He adds a steady receiving role at 6.8 targets and 5.4 catches per game. That combination has produced 100.8 rushing yards, 48.6 receiving yards and nine total touchdowns (seven rushing, two receiving) in five games. His 153.7 PPR points rank third.
The change from prior years is volume, not efficiency. In 2025 he averaged 14.3 carries, 3.0 red-zone carries and 5.5 targets per game. In 2024 those numbers were 14.7 carries, 2.9 red-zone carries and 3.7 targets. His per-carry efficiency has actually slipped. His 4.8 yards per carry is the lowest of his four seasons, down from 5.0 in 2025, 5.7 in 2024 and 5.2 as a rookie. The extra work has more than offset it. He is scoring 30.7 PPR points per game, up from 21.6 in 2025 and 21.4 in 2024, and well above the 16.1 per game he posted as a rookie, when he finished 41st. He has already lost one fumble, which matches his total in each of his first three seasons.
For fantasy and DFS, the value is built on touches near the goal line and a reliable receiving floor. That gives him a high weekly baseline in PPR formats even when the rushing efficiency is ordinary. The Clutch Edge projection of 25.9 points per game, third overall, sits below his current 30.7 pace. That gap mostly reflects his touchdown rate. Nine scores in five games is 1.8 per game, compared with roughly 1.1 per game across 2025. Some cooling there is the likeliest path down, but the projection still treats him as an elite option.
What would change the read is the workload itself. If his carries drift back toward the 14 to 15 per game of the past two seasons, or his red-zone share returns to around three per game, his ceiling looks more like his 2024-2025 range in the low 20s. As long as the 20-plus carries and near-seven targets hold, he remains one of the safest high-end plays on the board.
