Week 2 Recap: Lions Hang 52 as the Rest of the League Plays Coin-Flip Football

Written by a language model from the week’s box scores.

Week 2 was a heart-rate test. Eight of the 16 games were decided by one score, and two came down to a single point. Philadelphia went into Kansas City and left with a 20-17 win. Tampa Bay edged Houston 20-19. Cincinnati held off Jacksonville 31-27, and New England outlasted Miami 33-27 on the road. If your DFS lineups felt like a coin flip, you weren't imagining it.

Detroit was the exception. The Lions buried Chicago 52-21, the week's biggest margin at 31 points. Jared Goff was nearly flawless, going 23-of-28 for 334 yards and five touchdowns. Amon-Ra St. Brown caught three of those scores and finished with 9 catches for 115 yards. Jahmyr Gibbs added 94 yards and a touchdown on just 12 carries. The Bears still produced fantasy points in the loss. Caleb Williams threw for 207 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT, and Rome Odunze led everyone in that game with 7 catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns. D'Andre Swift chipped in 63 yards and a score.

The nailbiter of the week was Indianapolis 29, Denver 28. Jonathan Taylor did the heavy lifting with 25 carries for 165 yards. Daniel Jones threw for 316 yards and a touchdown, and rookie tight end Tyler Warren caught 4 passes for 79 yards. On the Denver side, Bo Nix threw three touchdowns on 206 yards with one interception. J.K. Dobbins ran for 76 yards and a score, and Troy Franklin led the Broncos with 8 catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.

The shootout was Dallas 40, New York 37, a 77-point game that delivered for anyone who stacked it. Russell Wilson threw for 450 yards and 3 TDs with one pick in the loss. Malik Nabers was the biggest winner of the slate with 9 catches for 167 yards and two scores. Dak Prescott answered by going 38-of-52 for 361 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. CeeDee Lamb caught 9 passes for 112 yards, and Javonte Williams ran for 97 yards and a touchdown. Cam Skattebo found the end zone on 11 carries for 45 yards.

Fantasy takeaways: Volume is king, and Taylor's 25-carry workload makes him a locked-in RB1. Nabers' ceiling is real even when the Giants lose, because losing means throwing, and Wilson was willing to push the ball downfield. Odunze's 128-yard, two-touchdown day in a blowout loss is a reminder that trailing teams pile up passing production, so keep him in your lineup. Detroit's offense is a weekly stack candidate with Goff, St. Brown and Gibbs all producing. Elsewhere, Baltimore (41-17 over Cleveland), Buffalo (30-10 at the Jets) and Atlanta, which held Minnesota to six points, all pulled away comfortably. That Falcons defense deserves a look on the streaming wire.
