Week 12 Recap: Jahmyr Gibbs Runs Wild as Week 12 Turns Into a Coin-Flip Bonanza

Written by a language model from the week’s box scores.

The story of Week 12 was the margin for error, because there wasn't any. Eight of the 14 games were decided by a touchdown or less, and four ended in three-point finishes: Chicago over Pittsburgh, Kansas City over Indianapolis, Jacksonville over Arizona, and Dallas over Philadelphia. Add Houston edging Buffalo 23-19, New England slipping past Cincinnati 26-20, and Seattle holding off Tennessee 30-24, and this was a week where every snap mattered. On the other end, Green Bay held Minnesota to six points and Baltimore, Atlanta, Cleveland and San Francisco all won comfortably by double digits.

The blowout belonged to the Rams, who dismantled Tampa Bay 34-7. Matthew Stafford was surgical, going 25-of-35 for 273 yards and three touchdowns, and Puka Nacua led the way with 7 catches for 97 yards. The Bucs' offense never got going. Teddy Bridgewater managed just 62 yards on 8-of-15 passing, and Emeka Egbuka topped the receiving column with only 3 catches for 32 yards. One caution for Rams backers is that Kyren Williams was held to 46 yards on 12 carries even in a game script built for him.

The nailbiter was Bears 31, Steelers 28, and Caleb Williams delivered the goods for fantasy managers with three touchdown passes on 239 yards. DJ Moore caught two of those scores on just 5 grabs for 64 yards, and Kyle Monangai punched in a rushing touchdown with 48 yards on 12 carries. Pittsburgh's most interesting fantasy note was Kenny Gainwell, who ripped off 92 yards on only 10 carries. Mason Rudolph was efficient but limited at 24-of-31 for 171 yards with a touchdown and a pick.

The shootout was Detroit's 34-27 win over the Giants, 61 combined points of pure fantasy gold. Jahmyr Gibbs was the player of the week, shredding New York for 219 yards and two touchdowns on just 15 carries, a ridiculous 14.6 yards per tote. Amon-Ra St. Brown added 9 catches for 149 yards and a score, and Jared Goff threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns. The Giants side was just as loud through the air. Jameis Winston slung it for 366 yards and two scores despite completing only half his throws, and Wan'Dale Robinson led everyone in the game with 9 catches for 156 yards and a touchdown.

For fantasy managers going forward, Gibbs is a locked-in RB1 with week-winning upside, and St. Brown remains a target-hog cornerstone. Winston's aggressive style makes Wan'Dale Robinson a legitimate weekly starter and a sneaky DFS play in any matchup that projects for points. In Chicago, Caleb Williams and DJ Moore are trending up as red-zone threats, and Gainwell's efficiency makes him worth a speculative add. Stafford and Nacua continue to be a reliable stack, but monitor Kyren Williams' modest output before paying up for him in DFS.
