Week 17 Recap: Drake Maye Goes Nearly Perfect as the Patriots Bury the Jets

Written by a language model from the week’s box scores.

The story of Week 17 was Drake Maye, who turned in one of the most efficient stat lines you'll ever see: 19-of-21 for 256 yards and five touchdowns in New England's 42-10 demolition of the Jets. That's two incompletions all afternoon. Stefon Diggs was the headliner on the receiving end with 6 catches for 101 yards and a score, and TreVeyon Henderson handled the grind work with 82 yards on 19 carries. If you rostered Patriots in DFS this week, you cashed.

That 32-point margin was the biggest of the week, and the Jets' passing game gave fantasy managers nothing. Brady Cook finished 19-of-33 for 152 yards and an interception, and John Metchie III led the team with just 41 receiving yards. The lone bright spot was Breece Hall, who ripped off 111 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries. Hall produced despite the game script, which is exactly what you want from a workhorse back. The Giants also rolled, beating the Raiders 34-10, and Cincinnati handled Arizona 37-14.

The nailbiter came in Buffalo, where the Eagles escaped 13-12 in a game that was ugly for fantasy. Jalen Hurts went 13-of-27 for 110 yards and one touchdown, and Saquon Barkley managed 68 yards on 19 carries. A.J. Brown led Philly with 68 receiving yards. Josh Allen threw for 262 yards but found the end zone zero times through the air. James Cook III ground out 74 yards on 20 carries. Brandin Cooks was the one big-play winner with 101 yards on only 4 catches. One-point games are great TV, but this one was a trap for anyone starting stars on either side.

If you wanted fireworks, San Francisco and Chicago delivered 80 combined points in a 42-38 49ers win. Christian McCaffrey was the engine with 140 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. Brock Purdy added 303 yards and three scores against one pick, with Ricky Pearsall leading the Niners at 85 receiving yards. Chicago gave it right back. Caleb Williams threw for 330 yards and two touchdowns, rookie Luther Burden III exploded for 8 catches, 138 yards and a score, and D'Andre Swift turned just 9 carries into 54 yards and two touchdowns.

Going forward, the takeaways are clear. Maye's efficiency makes New England's passing game a priority, and Diggs is the clear top target. Burden's 138-yard breakout on 8 grabs signals he's earned a featured role in a Bears offense willing to sling it. McCaffrey's 23 carries confirm his workload is fully intact. On the other side of the ledger, the Eagles' low-volume passing attack and the Jets' quarterback play are reasons for caution with anyone tied to those offenses. Across the rest of the slate, defenses ruled several matchups, including Cleveland 13, Pittsburgh 6 and Denver's 20-13 win at Kansas City. Treat those offenses carefully when lineups lock next week.
