Week 18 Recap: Five Two-Point Thrillers and a Jacksonville Demolition Close the Book on 2025

Written by a language model from the week’s box scores.

Week 18 delivered a finale full of white-knuckle finishes. Five games were decided by exactly two points: Tampa Bay edged Carolina 16-14, Atlanta slipped past New Orleans 19-17, Cleveland went into Cincinnati and won 20-18, Las Vegas held off Kansas City 14-12, and Pittsburgh outlasted Baltimore 26-24. Add Detroit's 19-16 road win in Chicago and Washington's 24-17 victory in Philadelphia, and much of the slate came down to the final possession. On the other end, defenses dominated in several matchups. Denver held the Chargers to three points in a 19-3 win, Minnesota did the same to Green Bay in a 16-3 win, and Seattle beat San Francisco 13-3 on the road.

The blowout belonged to Jacksonville, which buried Tennessee 41-7. Trevor Lawrence was sharp, going 22-of-30 for 255 yards and three touchdowns, and Parker Washington led the receivers with 87 yards and a score on five catches. The one blemish for fantasy managers was Travis Etienne Jr., who managed just 32 yards on 14 carries even in a game script built for a lead back. Tennessee's offense never got going. Brandon Allen threw for only 72 yards on 30 attempts with an interception, Tony Pollard ran for 48 yards on 14 carries, and Elic Ayomanor's three catches for 50 yards were the lone bright spot.

The officially closest finish came in Tampa, where the Bucs beat Carolina 16-14 by leaning on Bucky Irving. He carried 26 times for 85 yards in a volume-heavy performance. Baker Mayfield was efficient at 16-of-22 for 203 yards with a touchdown and an interception, and Cade Otton was his top target with seven catches for 94 yards and a score. Bryce Young actually outpassed Mayfield, going 24-of-35 for 266 yards and two touchdowns with one pick. Tetairoa McMillan added 85 yards on just four grabs. Carolina's ground game, however, was nonexistent: Rico Dowdle finished with 10 yards on seven carries.

The shootout was Houston's 38-30 win over Indianapolis, the week's highest-scoring game at 68 combined points. Oddly, C.J. Stroud put up modest numbers, going 14-of-23 for 169 yards and one touchdown. British Brooks led the Texans' ground game with 63 yards on 13 carries, and Xavier Hutchinson topped their receivers with 84 yards. The fireworks came from the Colts' side. Riley Leonard threw for 270 yards and two touchdowns with an interception, and Alec Pierce turned just four catches into 132 yards and both scores. DJ Giddens added 30 yards on eight carries.

For fantasy managers and DFS grinders, the lessons are clear. Pierce's 33-yards-per-catch afternoon shows the ceiling of a big-play receiver who doesn't need volume, which makes him a classic tournament play. Irving's 26-carry workload confirms he is the centerpiece in Tampa, and Otton's seven catches show he is a real part of Mayfield's plans. Lawrence's three-touchdown game makes the Jaguars' passing attack, including Washington, worth tracking. Etienne's and Dowdle's quiet days are reminders that touches alone don't guarantee production. Most of all, a week packed with low totals and two-point margins shows why cheap defenses and game-flow reads can win you a slate.
